According to their website, Honor the Treaties is an organization dedicated to “amplifying the voices of Indigenous communities through art and advocacy… by funding collaborations between Native artists and Native advocacy groups so that their message can reach a wider audience”.
The organization was founded in 2010 by a group of Indigenous artists and activists. Currently, the Board of Directors for Honor the Treaties is comprised solely of “Native educators, musicians, entrepreneurs, lawyers, and civic leaders”. Non-Indigenous allies do not serve on the board, but are invited to engage with the organization in other ways. Neil Young’s Honour the Treaties tour was an action affiliated with Honor the Treaties as a broader organization.
The main objective of Honor the Treaties is to provide funding and support to Indigenous artists that are creating artwork related to drawing awareness to the importance of treaty rights.
