University of British Columbia Indigenous Foundations – Government Policy

The First Nations Studies Program at University of British Columbia provides valuable information and historical overviews of Government Policy regarding the Indigenous people of Canada. Historical accounts of topics including: The Indian Act, Reserves, the Royal Proclamation of 1763, The Residential School System, Sixties Scoop, The White Paper in 1969, and Section 35 of the 1982 Constitution Act. All can be navigated to and from on their easy to use website via a left hand on screen toolbar.
The purpose of the site is to “develop an understanding of the relationship between the Canadian government and Aboriginal peoples, and how government policy continues to be an invasive force on Aboriginal peoples today”.
