Cowboys and Indians Alliance

The Cowboy and Indian Alliance is a movement put together by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to stop the Keystone XL pipeline. Although the Keystone XL portion of this pipeline is based in the United States, it is a continuation of the Canadian pipeline, and the alliance consists of Canadians as well.  This pipeline threatens water sources and agriculture that supports both Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities. This social movement has also created an alliance between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people as they are both invested in/ part of the land in which is threatened.

This movement has held many protests, and is working towards stopping the Keystone pipeline for good. The movement started with a five-day protest in Washington to voice their concerns about the pipeline itself as well as tar sands expansion. So far, the movement has been successful at postponing decisions to move ahead with the pipeline.
