Decolonizing Our Minds

The Equity Studies Student Union at the University of Toronto annually hosts a conference entitled “Decolonizing Our Minds”. Each year, community members and students come together to identify and engage with structural oppression and marginalization, colonial domination and resistance. Over the years they have had themes such as Identities, Collectivities & Imagined Communities, Life is a Protest, and Practicing Decolonial Love. Speakers include community members, academics and activists. The weekend is meant to open up space for reflection, learning and dialogue. The conference consistently has a strong emphasis on the importance of Indigenous perspectives and dismantling settler colonial structures within Canada.
