Mi’kmaq Treaty Day and History Month

October 1st is Mi’kmaq Treaty Day and was established in 1986. It celebrates the relationship between the Mi’kmaq people in Nova Scotia and the Crown. During the month of October, which is Mi’kmaq History Month, there are many events available for people of all ages to engage in. The purpose of Mi’kmaq Treaty Day and History Month is to have people in Nova Scotia participate and learn about the history of the Mi’kmaq people and the crown and to heighten the awareness of Mi’kmaw culture and heritage.
