Algonquin College: The Mamidosewin Centre

The Mamidosewin Centre is an Ottawa-based service administered through Algonquin College. The aim of the center is to “create a welcoming space for Aboriginal students on campus, as well as offer an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to learn more about Aboriginal culture.”

Their events are open to all students and include:

  • Elder visits, traditional teachings, talking circles and ceremonies
  • Monthly potlucks, feasts and seasonal celebrations
  • Access to sacred medicines and morning smudge circle
  • Cultural celebrations (Louis Riel Day, Inuit Celebration, etc.)
  • Drum circles, craft workshops facilitated by students or local artists
  • Community notice board for Aboriginal events in Ottawa
  • Movies, music and game nights
  • Aboriginal – Intramural sports teams (basketball, floor hockey, badminton, etc.)”
